Main certifications and market overview of food-grade RPET products

In recent years, due to the manifestation of their own social responsibilities and the realization of the pre-established recycling goals, some foreign companies have increased market demand for food-grade recycled PET, and the price of overseas recycled PET has increased. From a domestic perspective, there has been significant progress in the field of food contact-grade recycled PET in recent years. Some companies have obtained certification from relevant overseas institutions and exported their products (recycled PET bottle flakes, recycled PET bottle-grade slices) to the European and American markets.

At present, the certifications we often see in daily news and media information include FDA and EFSA, whose full names are respectively the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Food and Drug Administration) and the European Food Safety Authority (European Food Safety Authority), which are also domestic food safety authorities. It is understood that the above two agencies not only issue certifications to the food contact materials themselves, but also issue certifications to the production processes of related equipment manufacturers.

It is understood that the domestic recycled PET manufacturers (including recycled bottle flakes and recycled chips) certified by FDA or EFSA are as follows: Zhejiang Haili, Jiangsu Sevier, Tianjin Yingchuang, Guangdong Yingtuo, Guangxi Guolong, Veolia Huafei , Oulu Baolongyi, Hainan Yisheng, etc. At the same time, some domestic giants of virgin polyester bottle flakes, such as Wankai, China Resources, and Sanfangxiang, have invested in food-grade recycling to varying degrees in recent years.

Judging from early market news, China is expected to liberalize the application of recycled PET in food contact fields in 2025. Domestic beverage brands are also paying attention to this, but as of now, there is still no relevant clear news. If there are clear domestic policy guidelines and the demand in overseas markets continues to ferment, the domestic food-grade recycled PET market will usher in huge development opportunities.
