In today's textile industry, polyester staple fiber (PSF) has become an indispensable and important raw material with its performance and wide application fields. Since entering China in the 1970s, polyester staple fiber, a short fiber obtained by spinning polyester (polyethylene terephthalate, PTA) into tows and cutting, has quickly occupied a place in the market with its wide range of uses and low prices.
The production of polyester staple fiber is a complex and delicate process. It starts with polyester chips, which are made from polyester raw materials through melting, extrusion, stretching, cutting and other processes. Then, through dry spinning or liquid spinning, the chips are heated and melted, and then filtered, pressed, extruded and other processes are formed into fibers. Subsequently, the fibers are further processed by stretching, curling, spinning finishing, etc. to increase their strength and uniformity. Finally, the fibers are cut into fixed lengths to obtain what we call polyester staple fibers.
The reason why polyester staple fiber occupies an important position in the textile industry is largely due to its performance characteristics. Polyester staple fiber has excellent elasticity, which makes the fabric crisp and wrinkle-resistant, dimensionally stable and well shaped. Polyester staple fiber has good strength, and its breaking strength and elongation at break are greater than cotton, which makes it have performance in many fields such as clothing, home textiles and industry. Polyester staple fiber also has good acid resistance and weak alkali resistance. Although it will destroy the fiber when it reacts with concentrated alkali at room temperature or dilute alkali at high temperature, its chemical stability is still quite good under normal use conditions.
The application field of polyester staple fiber is extremely wide. In the textile industry, it is mainly used in the cotton spinning industry. It can be spun alone or blended with cotton, viscose fiber, linen, wool, etc. The resulting yarn is mainly used for textile clothing. Polyester staple fiber can also be used in industries such as non-woven fabrics, filling materials and thermal insulation materials. In the field of clothing, polyester staple fibers are widely used in fabrics, linings, underwear, socks, clothing fillings, etc.; in the field of home textiles, such as curtains, screens, shower curtains, bed quilts, tablecloths, and decoration materials, polyester staple fibers can also be seen; in the industrial field, polyester staple fibers are used for tire cord fabrics, conveyor belts, light box fabrics, V-belts, vehicle seat belts, etc.
With the continuous development of the textile industry, the market demand for polyester staple fibers is also growing continuously. Polyester staple fibers have a very high cost-effectiveness, and their price has a great advantage over fiber raw materials such as nylon and cotton. At the same time, with the continuous improvement of environmental awareness, recycled polyester staple fibers are gradually favored by the market. Recycled polyester staple fibers are made from recycled PET bottles, etc., which not only reduces resource waste, but also reduces environmental pollution.
