In 2024, the industry standard "General Requirements for Recyclable Design of Plastic Products" will be compiled and approved; the national standard "Plastic Recyclable Design Guidelines Part 1: Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Materials" and "Plastic Recyclable Recycling" will be compiled and approved. Design Guidelines Part 2: High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Materials" preparation and project approval; China's Plastics Recycling Design and Testing Laboratory has been officially launched, indicating that the plastics industry chain's technical demand for a recyclable design standard system based on scientific rigor and experimental testing is constantly increasing, and the industry's influence is also increasing.

Recyclable design test laboratory operation, CPRRA Launch new services

The definition of recyclability is the technical basis that runs through the recyclable design system, and the plastics industry chain has a consistent consensus. The definition of "recyclable" in the group standards of the China Synthetic Resin Association means that the following four conditions are met at the same time:

1. The raw materials used in the product should be recyclable, excluding materials whose reuse is restricted due to physical, chemical, environmental protection, health and safety and other factors;

2. Products should be collected into the recycling system on a widespread and large-scale basis for sorting and regeneration;

3. The product recovery and regeneration process is commercially feasible;

4. Recycled plastic can be regenerated They are raw materials for manufacturing new products, and recycled materials have good market value (if the market value of the recycling process is negative, but policies and regulations mandate the use of recycled materials, the recycled materials are also considered to have market value).

However, due to the limitations of plastic recycling systems in various places and the rapid development of innovative packaging technologies, some plastic products cannot be fully recognized and collected by traditional plastic recycling systems, or it is impossible to determine whether they are compatible with existing recycling systems based on existing industry experience. regeneration system Compatible, its recyclability needs to be determined according to scientific material performance testing.

Even some plastic packaging designs derived from recyclable design concepts cannot fully enter the corresponding recycling stream, such as single-material flexible packaging.

Innovative materials and design technologies can only be claimed to have environmentally friendly properties after passing the test of the Recyclable Design Laboratory to avoid "misleading" the public and can be safely and responsibly introduced to the market.
